Para 30 - عَمَّ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

89.15-16

فَاَمَّا الْاِنْسَانُ اِذَا مَا ابْتَلٰىهُ رَبُّهٗ فَاَكْرَمَهٗ وَ نَعَّمَهٗ ﳔ فَیَقُوْلُ رَبِّیْۤ اَكْرَمَنِﭤ(15) وَ اَمَّاۤ اِذَا مَا ابْتَلٰىهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَیْهِ رِزْقَهٗ ﳔ فَیَقُوْلُ رَبِّیْۤ اَهَانَنِۚ (16)

Kanz ul Iman Kanz ul Irfan

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

So as for man, whenever his Lord tests him, then He honours him and grants him favour, so he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” And as for whenever He tests him, then He restricts his sustenance, so he says, “My Lord has humiliated me.” [1]

Commentary

Allah Almighty tests people by granting them wealth, blessings, and respect and taking it back. A sincere and obedient believer is always content with the will of Allah Almighty, and is grateful in times of prosperity and patient in adversity. However, a heedless and ignorant person acts contrary to this, i.e., if he is tested through a blessing and respect, he becomes conceited, and instead of being grateful, he believes that he is entitled to it and considers it his virtue or proof that he is accepted in the court of Allah Almighty. Conversely, if Allah Almighty tests him by restricting his sustenance or through other hardships, he complains to Allah Almighty, he goes to people and whines, or he considers that hardship a sign of rejection in the court of Allah. This conduct does not befit the status of a true believer.
